Darkwood – First pre-alpha gameplay trailer!

05 March 2013 by Acid Wizard

After countless hours of work, we are finally ready to show you a kick-ass gameplay trailer from Darkwood! Go grab your popcorn, set the video on fullscreen and 1080p and enjoy!

The video shows the second part of gameplay, in which the player has to defend his home. Things that will help you survive the night include:

Barricades

These range from simple metallic nets that do not obscur vision, but provide little defence to massive metal plates, which are hard to destroy but also impossible to see through. Apart from requiring certain materials, building a type of barricade requires specific tools, like a hammer or saw.

Power management

If you wish to survive through the night, you will have to provide enough gasoline for your generator, which powers all your electrical devices: lights and traps. The more devices like these you have active at the same time, the more gasoline gets drained. Don’t let your generator get thirsty, or you’ll have to risk going out in the dark..

Gameplay zapowiada się interesująco, a muzyka i dźwięki budują naprawdę gęsty klimat. Kupuję jak tylko się ukaże. Tylko czy nie będę się w nią bał grać?

Found out about this game through Kotaku. Love what I see!!

I will vote for you on Steam. I want to play this game! Plus I seem to naturally be attracted to Steam games vs. other forms of digital distribution. My wife loves survival horror, too…so we are very happy to hear you say this!! :)

I’ll look for you on Greenlight from time to time until I find you.

Looks great! What kind of engine are you using for the game, or are your creating your own?

Hey! The game is written in C# using the XNA framework. But it would be nice to jump over to Unity if we gather enough funds ;)

Your game looks AWESOME (graphically and gameplay-wise), a true achievement! Do you have a Twitter? I’ll definitely want to keep posted.

Congratulations, both as a player and as a fellow indie roguelike-like game developer! ;)

If it’s not too much to ask, I’d love to know how you balanced handcrafted locations versus procgen locations! It’s easy to get lost on the track of wanting to randomize everythin, right? :D

    Cheers,

Thanks! We just started one, https://twitter.com/TheAcidWizard . We never used twitter, so it will take us some time to get familiar with it ;)

Oh and can’t really say about the balancing.. Cause it’s totally not balanced right now ;) We would like everything to be a mix of hand crafted + procedural. We want you to keep guessing, but also be fair and let you recognize a location to avoid a particular enemy or something.
